       Welcome to Banag-Banag Inc!

The Bisaya Speaking Association in New South Wales Australia.


 

WHAT IS BANAG-BANAG?
 
It is a not-for-profit organisation representing the Bisaya-Speaking community of the Philippines. The name Banag-Banag is derived from the word “dawn” signifying a vision of a new day, a new beginning so full of hope for the future.
 
On its 14th year, Banag-Banag Inc., an affiliate of Philippine Community Council      (PCC-NSW),  has grown from strength to strength to just over 300 members. It is actively involved in various social and charitable works both in Sydney and in the Philippines. 

     

BANAG BANAG, INC AWARDED PLAQUE OF RECOGNITION


 

PCC-NSW recognised the charity works of Banag Banag, Inc during the PCC-NSW Recognition day, as the Filipino community's contribution to the Australia Day Celebration of Blacktown City Council. The Plaque of Recognition acknowledged Banag Banag's important accomplishments supporting the well-being of members, upholding the ideals of the PCC-NSW, and for projects undertaking medical missions in the Philippines.
This occassion was also taken to present the general members and affiliates of PCC-NSW, the Philippine Presidential Citation in the category of "Banaag (Dawn) Award".
According to the Commission of Filipinos Overseas website, the Banaag Award is awarded to Filipino individuals or associations for their contributions which have significantly benefited a sector or community in the Philippines, or advanced the cause of overseas Filipino communities. PCC-NSW was among 31 awardees from a total of 122 nominations from 29 countries considered by The Commission on Filipinos Overseas.
The award was handed over by Laurie Ferguson, Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs and Settlement Services. Also present at the ceremony were Blacktown City Mayor, Charlie Lowles, who declared that Blacktown is the Filipino Capital of NSW and Australia; Roger Price, Federal member for Chifley; State MP, Barbara Perry; and David Bradbury, Federal Member for Lindsay.

SOUTH PACIFIC!

Banag Banag, Inc will hold its annual Gala Night In August 2010. The 16th anniversary Celebration will be themed “SOUTH PACIFIC” and will be held at the Rooty Hill RSL Club’s Tivoli Showroom where the best of local talent and international artists are showcased. All are invited to the dinner-dance party where members and guests are expected to come in their exciting South Pacific costume for a night of fun and entertainment. Tickets are sold at $50 each.

Proceeds of the night will go towards Banag Banag’s projects, namely:
1. Yearly sponsorship of 4 financially disadvantaged students at Don Bosco-Balamban Training Centre.
2. Support to Bethlehem Day Care Centre located in a garbage dumpsite at Inayawan, Cebu.
3. Assistance to Bethlehem Communities in Australia in its low cost housing project at Dumlog, Talisay, Cebu.
4. Setting-up of a "Disaster Fund' as a ready fund to assist our fellow countrymen who are affected by calamities.
5. Initiated a “Poso" (deep well) project for barangays in the Visayas and Mindanao Regions where it is most needed.
6. Initiated a youth workshop - promoting youth self-esteem and wellbeing.
